Different audiences

  1) Write a definition of a   passive  audience:  The audience accepts and believes all messages in any media text that they receive . 2)  Write a definition of an  active  audience:  interprets and responds to a media text in different ways and is capable of challenging the ideas encoded in it 3) Write a definition of the  hypodermic needle  theory:  based on early observations of the effect of mass media 4) Write a definition of the  two-step flow  theory: he flow of information and influence from the mass media to their audiences involves 5) What is YOUR opinion on the effect the media has on audiences? Do you think the media makes people think or act in a certain way? Give an example to explain your answer . The media changes peoples thoughts because it can make them force a lifestyle. The media can make you buy stuff so you can be like some famous people.

Reception Theory

  1) What is the preferred reading of a media text?  How the producer wants the audience to view the media text. 2) What is the oppositional reading of a media text? when the audience rejects the preferred reading, and creates their own meaning for the text.  3) What do the producers of the trailer want the audience to think about the teenagers and young people in the film? Violent and aggressive  4) Why might some young people feel the way teenagers are presented in the trailer is unfair? Not all teenagers act like that so its a stereotype against them
